Thomas Jefferson High School Defeats Metro Schools in the Toys for Tots Campaign

Thomas Jefferson students took on the challenge offered to them by the U.S. Marine Corps again this
year. Collect the most toys, collect monetary or gift card donations, and log the most volunteer hours
to win the traveling trophy for one year. The gauntlet was laid down, and the TJ students picked it up
and again proved they are the most generous people in the area. This year, the event spearheaded by F.E.A. students, collected over 650 toys for the Toys for Tots Campaign beating the metro schools by 400 toys. Not only did they do well in the toy collection category, the CAP students and parents added over 20 hours of volunteer time to sorting the toys at the warehouse, and the TJHS band, choir, and orchestra
performed at the Mid America Center during the distribution of the toys logging over 100 hours. Money
and gift cards were also donated to help TJ secure the trophy.
Congratulations Thomas Jefferson
students and staff for the great job and generosity and making Christmas a joy for many students in the
area.
A competition between classrooms was also held during the U.S. Marine Corp competition at TJ.
Students and staff were challenged to be the room that collected the most toys and win a pizza party and plaque that will travel year to year to the classroom winners. It was a very competitive year win
many rooms collecting over 50 toys. This year’s winner was Mr. Brown’s science class with 180 toys.
Another plaque was awarded to the CAP students and band, choir, and orchestra students for logging the most volunteer hours. Congratulations.
The trophy can be seen in the trophy case across from the Student Services Office, plaques can be seen in Mr. Brown’s room and in the trophy case located in the TJAC. I would like to thank Mr. Kadner’s
Industrial Art students for designing and making the plaques.
