On March 16, fifteen 6th grade students from Kirn participated in the AEA 13 / Holmquist Math Day.
Participants were: Kevin Lin, Tyler Messenger, Logan Erwin, Trevor DiColandrea, Colton Mahood, Jessica Hipnar, Alicia Steppuhn, Kathryn Amdor, Hailey Carson, Emma Leisinger, Nolan Mott, Nolan Dresher, Nick Schmitt, Devon Logan and Josh Krabbe.
Of the 28 teams who participated, the team of Kevin Lin, Tyler Messenger, Logan Erwin, Trevor DiColandrea & Colton Mahood placed 2nd in the competition - qualifying them for the state competition.

Congratulations to the Kirn Jazz ensembles for their performances at the Bluffs Jazz Festival last Saturday. Kirn Jazz I placed 4th and Kirn Jazz II placed 7th of all junior high and middle school bands in attendance.
Outstanding soloist awards were earned by 8th graders Joi Albertus, Caleb Ferleman, and 7th grader Noah Larsen of Jazz 1, and 7th graders Kevin Roark, Taylor Wood, Ellie Croson, and 6th graders John Johnson, Cody Rupp, Kirsten Davis, and Nick Beck of Jazz II.

Congratulations to Rebecca Barker! She is an Iowa Silver Key Scholastic writing award winner. She will be recognized in Des Moines, Iowa, on Sunday, March 7, 2010 for her short story. This is a very prestigious award . Very few Iowans receive this award.
A special congratulation goes to Natalie Carlon for winning an Iowa Scholastic Gold Key Award. She will be honored for her short story,” A Treasure of the Heart” on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in Des Moines. Her story has been forwarded for national adjudication. This is a very select and prestigious award.
In addition to Natalie Carlon's Gold Key and Rebecca Barker's Silver Key, the following students won awards for their poetry at the regional Scholastic Writing Awards:
