When reading math text books you should read for a PURPOSE.  The main subject is usually in identified in the chapter title or the lesson title.

 

            When reading a new section in your math book think to when you have seen this information in the past :

      

1.  Many times in math you have already seen fractions, decimals, and percents or whatever the lesson may be about.  Math builds upon itself.  When did you do something similar to this in the past?

      

2.        Look back at previous chapters for information that will help you learn about what is being taught.

 

3.  Use the following guideline for what to expect in the upcoming lesson.  Look for these items:

            A.  Titles, headings, and highlighted terms

            B.  Any boxed items

            C.  Any words in boldface

            D.  Any models, diagrams, or examples

            E.  The introductory paragraph
