I. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by President Marvin Arnpriester at 6:20 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
Members Present:  Bobbette Behrens (6:28), Francis Clark (6:27), Marilyn Heider (7:10), Rick Killion, Gina Malloy and Marvin Arnpriester.
Members Absent:  Mark Peterson
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
BE IT RESOLVED that the agenda as submitted be approved.

IV. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND

 Marilyn Heider referenced the following:
· Annual Condition of Education Report
· Urban Education Network meeting in Des Moines on January 28, 2003.
Rick Killion thanked Dr. Dee Engstrom for her presentation during tonight’s Work Session.

Mark Peterson referenced the following:

· Iowa High School speech Contest on Saturday and the quality of staff that help students.
· Teachers Quality Program in Iowa.
Bobbette Behrens referenced the following:
· Article published in The Omaha World Herald on an Education Annual Report
· Lewis & Clark preschool facility now open
Gina Malloy referenced the following:
· Urban Education Network meeting in Des Moines on January 28, 2003.
· First Policy Review meeting of the year scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2003.
Francis Clark referenced the following:
· Retirement Tea for Mike Messerli on January 20, 2003
· No Child Left Behind Legislation
IX. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Superintendent Richard H. Christie referenced the Lewis & Clark Open House scheduled for February 27, 2003.
X.  PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
(This is an opportunity for members of the public to address the Board regarding agenda items or other matters of concern.)
   Janine Headen addressed the Board.
   Joyce Farrington addressed the Board.
   Vicki Overly addressed the Board.
   Kevin Brown addressed the Board.
XI.  LEADERSHIP IN FITNESS TRAINING (L.I.F.T.) GRANT
Melanie Shellberg, Principal at Abraham Lincoln High School introduced Patty Norman and Colleen Somers who made presentations regarding the Leadership In Fitness Training (L.I.F.T.) Grant.

XIII.  CONSENT ITEMS
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approves the following consent items:

A. Approves the Special Education placements as presented (Page 4)

XIV.  EXPULSIONS
A.  BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education expels student A named in the Superintendent’s recommendation for the term specified and establishes conditions for re-entry as identified in the Superintendent’s recommendation.

Voting in Favor:  Bobbette Behrens, Francis Clark, Marilyn Heider, Rick Killion, Gina Malloy, Mark Peterson and Marvin Arnpriester.

B.  BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education expels student B named in the Superintendent’s recommendation for the term specified and establishes conditions for re-entry as identified in the Superintendent’s recommendation.

BE IT RESOLVED, upon the recommendation of Mairlyn Heider, who audited the bills, that the claims as presented on the Warrant Registers be approved.
