I. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by President Marvin Arnpriester at 7:30 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
Members Present:  Francis Clark, Mark Peterson, Dave Strom and Marvin Arnpriester.
Members Absent:  Randy Ewing, Ken Petersen and Cathy Ryba.
III. INVOCATION
The invocation was led by Rev. E.A. Hering from Saint John Lutheran Church.
IV. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

BE IT RESOLVED that the minutes of the regular meeting of January 22, 2001, and the work sessions of January 15, January 17 and January 31, 2001 be approved.

· Instructional Committee meeting
· Bloomer Elementary School Invention Convention
· Legislative Coffee held on Saturday
· School visitation to Bloomer Elementary School and interactions with students and Principal on Building Improvement Plans and Master Facilities Plan.
· Updates on Co-curricular and Insurance Committees.
Francis Clark referenced the following:

· Shortage of Nurses
Marvin Arnpriester referenced the following:

· Series of articles in the Des Moines Register on Teacher retirement.

IX. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Superintendent, Richard H. Christie referenced the following:

X. SECONDARY MATH PRESENTATION
Presentations were given by Roger Williams, Supervisor of Secondary Education; Rick Morton, teacher from Kirn Jr. High School; Sue Griswold, teacher from Wilson Jr. High School; Charles Crouse, teacher from Thomas Jefferson High School; Ruth Brown, teacher from Abraham Lincoln High School and Bob Hansen teacher from Abraham Lincoln High School.

B. Nutrition Services Budget Development
Presentation was given by Virginia Bechtold, Supervisor of Nutrition Services.
C. Preliminary Budget Priorities
Presentation was given by Superintendent, Richard H. Christie.
XII. CONSENT ITEMS
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approves the following consent items:

A. Approves the Special Education Placements as listed on Page 4.

B. Approves the completion of the HVAC Project at Lewis & Clark Elementary School.  As per Chapter 573 of the Code of Iowa, the final retainage will be paid to Mechanical Systems, Inc. at the end of thirty days if there are no claims on file.
 
C. Approves the completion of the plumbing project, including restroom remodeling, at Longfellow Elementary School.  As per Chapter 573 of the Code of Iowa, the final retainage will be paid to Anderson Construction at the end of thirty days if there are no claims on file.
